VR and Haptic/Tactile Feedback

My biggest concern recently for VR has been about feedback. When I tested the Vive, I absolutely loved it. But ever since, I've been wondering: how do developers go about adding weight and feedback to the user?

I've seen Vive demos where the player (dev) is using a sword and shield, and he can just wave the both around so effortlessly. When he strikes at an enemy, it doesn't really look like he truly slashed at an enemy. It just looks like he's waving a wand around, magically killing...
